Hi all,
Thinking about purchasing a tube integrated that has a triode-ul switch. I know the PrimaLuna higher end integrated amps have this feature, but I'm not interested in shelling out that kind of cash. Are there any other options out there for sale in the US? If not then I may be stuck with Chinese amps for sale on ebay. Anyone taken the plunge and purchased one of them?
Follow Ups:
Line Magnetic 211ia is one of the best EL34 based integrated amps I have heard - UL/Triode mode, remote, subwoofer output, built in meters. $1500.It's Chinese but in my experience Line Magnetic is the best I've heard from China. In terms of sound quality and build quality.

nt
KT88, 50 Watts pentode, 30 Watts triode. Offers 4, 8, and 16 Ohm taps.
Original retail was $1800 IIRC. This one is chock full of Duelund CAST
Copper caps ...
Gathering dust, though, as triode mode doesn't really compete with SET.

Well I have a friend that has a pair of Cary CAD 50 MKII that says he will let me have em for a month. That should give me some idea as they are switchable to tirode. Probably much better than the china ebay stuff as well!
Will be interested in your perceptions. I had VTL amps with a triode tetrode switch. With every type of music and loudspeaker tetrode was way better. Tetrode/UL was considered an improvement over triode until the triode romantics appeared. Not to say though that a dedicated triode tube doesn't have the claimed magic. I just haven't heard it in a switchable tube.
DIY is out. I'm way to busy, and at present not that good at soldering. Cayin seems to be disappearing from the market. I may be interested in a used A88T-MKII but all I have seen people want almost new price for them. I see many integrated on eBay with the triode switch. Anyone have experience with Douk Audio, Boyuu, or Nobsound? I have never had a triode amp, so I'm curious. I suppose I could always take the plunge and buy a cheap Chinese triode amp just to get my feet wet.
The VTA's come built. The price is there as well.
These have pentode and triode switchable.
Great amps and built like tanks. Very flexible as far as output tubes as well. I prefer the Gold Lion Kt88s.
Do a search. these are some fantastic amps and the best bang for the buck in audio today.
As far as I know they are made in the same factory as Prima Luna and some have Triode/UL switching.
Unless they have changed over the years they do require manually adjusting the output tube bias, but that's not a big deal.
