If I use a Preamp/Tuner from a console as a stand alone, do I replace the multi-wire pin connection with a conventional power cord?

Yes, it was common-
the issue with an independent power supply is that you are providing all the voltages - Filament, Bias and plate- add up your watts....

Depends on what is on that multiwire connector. Do you know?
Adding to Kal's response, sometimes amplifier, tuner and preamplifier share the same power supply and distribute the B+ etc., through a multiwire connector. If you include the make and model number, or if you have it, a schematic, someone will answer your question.
