The setting is an attempt to bring the output phase of the sub to align with that of the main speaker which is shifted by the driver/port interaction. It has nothing to do with the relative distances as that is a separate matter.

Hi,Kal. Big fan, and thanks for replying. So, what phase setting is appropriate? Rythmik says 10 o'clock with a ported speaker, and quite frankly, it sounds better at that setting than when set at zero. I know ... whatever sounds right must be correct; however, since that is a variable, I wonder what, if any, objective measurement was used by Rythmik to come to its conclusion.
It was probably from a survey of the phase shift of ported speakers and is undoubtedly an average since they cannot predict which speaker you will use with the sub.
As a result, there's no certainty that 10 o'clock is perfect for your setup. You can follow your ears, if you trust them.
