HT Magazine gave a rave review to a Bel Canto Class D amplifier, I borrowed one from UK distributor and found the amplifier totally unlistenable Class AB still rules. new Quad QSP sounds very good, review in Positive Feed back Online.

I've heard some pretty outstanding Class AB amps and they don't sit there sucking up a ton of power and creating a lot of unnecessary heat.
With all due respect, who cares if Class A is less efficient and produces heat? There is a reason folks like Nelson Pass manufacture both Class A and Class AB amps.
Even papa states when asked “Why Class A?” the response is “It sounds better”
The reality is, it depends on your speakers. Some speakers do indeed benefit more from the extra voltage Class AB provides, but for other speakers, Class A can make them sing like no other amp can.
I would like to hear this new Rogue amp. I have not heard a Class D yet that did not degrade the HF reproduction (not to mention other issues), but as stated, the technology is evolving.

I'm a big AB fan.

I'm perfectly happy with a tube preamp in front of my Class A SS amp.
Until I stumbled upon this place about a year and a half ago, I didn't really know anything about the different types of amps (though I did enjoy my old B&K amp - EX442 "Sonata"), which I will safely assume was Class A/B.
I'm currently using a pure Class A Forté 4a (purchased from another Inmate), and I absolutely love the sound I'm getting from this amp, paired with a tube preamp.
"Forget all your preconceived notions, if you have any, about Class D amplifiers."
Not to discount your actual experience with the Bel Canto.
The Rogue sure reads good; I'd love to hear one.
"BEWARE the Blunted Needle!"
You can not believe any review you always have to listen for yourself.
But keep in mind that not all Class D amps are created equal. The Bel Canto M300's that I owned were some of the worse sounding Class D amps in my experience. Wyred 4 Sound (SX-500) which also uses the ICEpower Modules were much better in my experience but still not quite up there with my traditional Class AB solid-state amps.
Class D designs are still evolving and I'm very curious about the new Rogue hybrid Class D products. A friend of mine may get one in for audition and I'll be knocking on his door when it arrives. ;-)
The Roque amps sound extremely good. They use the Hypex class-d modules coupled with a very well done tube front end section. Perhaps a tad warmer in tonal balance for the speakers I am using, but I can see the allure of this excellent design.
