This is from the a report on the up graded Doge 8
" The upgrade allows the
phono section to accept moving coils with an output of .25 mV or greater, straight in, without
a step-up transformer.
So this wouldn't work either

From memory, I think I looked at the dB gain figure and concluded it should be fine.
Well, I guess those who decide to use absurdly LOMCs deserve the hassle they cause themselves! :-))

I don't know about the upgraded Doge, but the previous version had a pretty noisy FET MC stage. Objectionably noisy with my .25mV Denon.
The phono stage performed much better with an external SUT. With the latter it was quiet, though not as noise free as my ARC SP16.
I liked the Doge - a smooth, dynamic full bodied sound - but ultimately it didn't 'gel' in my system. Internal build quality/soldering was...well, 'dodgy'. Nowhere near the quality of the ARC in this respect.

Interesting that it should have been noisy. I have a JFET phono stage which is dead quiet ... though that's perhaps bcoz each channel is powered by 2 x 12v SLAs?

Andy
I think a FET head amp should be quiet - otherwise was is the point. To me it appeared to be an afterthought.
