surface noise on LP depending on cartridge ?

dear all,

I am quite new to vinyl and learning.
I wonder how much difference in surface noise when listening to a given LP
there is between different cartridges ?
I own a Benz ACE L and had the opportunity to hear a completely different
system, equipped with an Orthofon Kuntrapunkt B. It seemed much more
quieter. What do you think ?
Is it right to say the higher the price of the cartridge, the less noisy it is ? or is there no relation ?
Is the reduction of surface noise accomplished at the expense of someting
alse ?
