Henry,

I was heading in the same general direction as you (looking at tube phono preamps) when I came across a comment by Lloyd Walker - whose opinions, like yours, I respect. Walker said, more or less, that use of tubes in this amplification stage was not as sonically desirable as solid state due to the minute nature of the current being amplified. This has caused me to pause and consider auditioning solid state phono preamps as well as tubes.
