Hi Klaus,

I have to disagree: on a properly recorded record the dynamic range us well above 50 dB, on some audiophile records it's up to 65 dB.

The max. dynamic range of a 16bit CD is 96 dB (6 dB per bit), theoretically, as you have to deduct the noise from the rest of the system.

As for the bass: a good cutting engineer will reduce the bass only on exceedingly long album sides, rather he will cut at a slightly lower level.

If someone wants extremely bass-heavy music cut on a 30 min side, it's his own fault, if the record sounds dull.

But then there's 12" maxi singles, and there are nearly no restrictions regarding the amount of bass. And this bass just burys the CD.

Cheers,

Christoph
