The phono stage of my 10 year old Yamaha RX-730 had low output, which I didn't realize until I went to an outboard phono preamp. You will not only improve the output, but also every other aspect (resolution, dynamics, tonal accuracy, etc.) with a good phono preamp. I bought a Gram Amp 2SE and was amazed at the difference.
