I recommend you do a net search on "Thorens TD-126 Mk II restoration" and see what turns up. You could post your concerns to these restorers and get a rough idea what restoration might cost.
I had my TD 124 Mk I restored and never regretted the $600 it cost. I use a SME 12" arm and Shure V15 Vx MR cartridge and Jico stylus. It sounds wonderful!
