It never ceases to astound me that vinyl playback even works, let alone works so well. Peter Ledermann (of Soundsmith) has an interesting lecture about the energy transmission in cantilevers (and why he feels moving iron designs are superior to moving coils) - link below. The physics is pretty interesting.
