With VPI 'tables I have had their 9" metal, 10" metal and 3D, and now 12" 3D. In general I'd agree that the shorter arms are livelier and quicker, but there's an engaging seamlessness and effortlessness with the 12" that just lets me settle in and enjoy the music. I have not found the 12"overly difficult to set up, but I am not as fussy as some.
