I just spent some money to partially upgrade my 40 yr old Linn LP 12, one that was never truly dysfunctional until 3-4 years ago, with Valhalla issues. It died twice, so I had the table redone. Rebuilt Valhalla plus added Cirkus and other stuff.
My HOMC works very nicely on the Basik Plus LVX arm. Table sounds very nice, neutral and unobtrusive, now with better bass and solidity and lively. I will probably upgrade more.
Do you still know how to resurrect the table? Does your friend know anything about doing it?
I wouldn't waste money on a new table.
