My latest project is to rebuild a Rek-O-Kut with a pabst motor. I would like to replace the pulley on the motor, as the existing pulley has an unacceptable runout greater then 0.003". I am hoping to get less than 0.001" TIR. Also, the material that was used to make the pulley is not metal. It is a resin/fabric (I think) concoction that will not be 100% smooth regardless of finishing/sanding technique. Believe me, I tried using 3200 grit sanding and while the pulley material does sand off easily, it still has a rough texture. Hoping to replace with a precision machined brass pulley.

So, the challenge I am having is removing the pulley and then putting on a newly machined pulley. I have been able to push the main motor shaft about 90% thru the bearing. Then it stops. Not sure if the motor housing needs to be disassembled in order for the shaft to 100% clear the bearing. If so, I can't figure out how to separate the motor housing to enable the shaft to clear the bearing. There are no screws in the motor housing. Wondering if the motor housing was press fit together.

If you have any experience disassembling the pabst motor, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Pat
