I currently drive a Chevy Sonic. Our other car is an older Aveo. The Aveo was a cheap commuter but the Sonic is actually a blast to drive...at least if you get the 6 speed manual and turbo 1.4 litre. This brings the theoretical cost above $15 Gs but I bought mine used with 40 000 km on it, at just over half the original sticker price. It's like a poor-man's VW GTI.
I live in an area of the country with the highest overall wages per capita. It's also the area with the highest personal debt-load. Most folks are driving $50 000 vehicles and have another in the driveway at home. I guess they're the ones driving the 'economy' so I shouldn't complain! Seems like it's coming to a head though...
