As 6bq5 stated, both of these products are similar and are totally comprised of non-ionic surfactants. Both are produced by Dow Chemical, so maybe a call to the company would be the final answer. Of course, I am sure the company will tell you that they know nothing about cleaning records with their products. So, maybe just ask what is the difference between these two products, since they are both non-ionic surfactants.

For a long time, I have used Triton X-114 in my home-brew record cleaning fluid. It is so concentrated, that I only use three drops in a 500ml solution solution. It has the usual California cancer warning on the label, and the fluid eventually ate right though the soft plastic bottle. Only about a half cup of fluid came out, but it took forever to clean it up due to the high concentration. It just kept sudsing forever and ever. The remaining Triton X-114 is now in a glass bottle.

Oddly enough, one of the three chemicals in Tergitol I give to my cat for constipation. It is called polyethylene glycol or Miralax. Maybe I could ask the cat if in her experience, she thinks tergitol would be the best solution.
