I happen to live close enough to the Magnum Dynalab factory that I took my tuner there myself. Dropped it off & had a nice chat with the owners.

Depending on which model & how far you wish to go, mods can start at a few hundred to over one thousand. Since mine was one of the very early tuners I opted for $300 of upgrades. This included new RCA jacks, replacing the crappy stamped metal ones, new caps & op amps & some other circuit upgrades. They also checked everything & aligned it. In my opinion, it was a great step up for not much money.

My soldering skills are not at the level yours are, so I prefer to deal with the company. They know what they are doing, it is a family run business, they did good work and I had a great time chatting with them.

My issue with old tube/ vintage tuners is you have to find someone who can fix it, repair the problems something that old is going to have (simply because of age) and get it going without costing like a new tuner. There is the added cost of shipping a product a great distance, to someone you have never dealt with before. Being able to talk to someone face to face helps in my mind.
