Later production Philips ECG (Sylvania tooling) 12AX7 will add some pop to it. Not the most refined, but plenty of dynamics and far better overall than the new stuff. That is one where examples are still available not all used up by the guitar players.
If the circuit requires an X7, stick with an X7 or it's derivatives (7025, etc.). The best 5751 will sound flat and lifeless in a circuit that demands the higher mu.
