That is partially correct. I think it might have been socket to pin contact issues but I couldn't be sure. All I know is there were a number of cases where the plain pin EH 12BH7 did not perform properly in that center socket. I stopped recommending it for the VTAs on that basis - I didn't want anybody to have trouble with the tube.

However when the tube did work the sound was fine!
