My two cents on EL34's in a Marantz 8b is-

If you are using a US made driver in this amp (6BH6) the JJ KT 77 are magic when it comes to speed, bottom through top, and imaging.

However!!!!!!, I bought a NOS quad set of E90F drivers for this amp (8b) and everything, I mean everything, changed.

The E90F, although a bit brighter than it's American cousin (6BH6), has an incredible increase of detail, especially when the music gets complex- a lot of instruments or voices. The Russian, and German EL34/KT77tubes seem to show off their I.M.Distortion with this E90F driver.

The vintage Mullard EL34 xf2's in the Marantz 8b, along with the E90F driver, and RCA "clear top" phase inverter makes this, by far, the best amplifier I have ever heard.

I no longer want to/need to roll tubes, I just roll up on the couch, shake my head in dis-belief, and ENJOY the music! P E R I O D......!
