I think that the V140 may have a solid state input stage, while the VT series originally used tubes for that stage, although I'm guessing from hazy memory here. Certainly worth a call to ARC to see if that was the case, as well as the differences with the SE. I always felt the first VT amps were a little more tube-like in sound than the V and Classic series that preceded them, a little less etched and more harmonically fleshed-out.
