On assessing for treble harsh, ALWAYS
check-out your music source, interconnect components,
cables, and A.C. line interfaces. Many preamps are
bogus, that's why the only preamps I allow in a system
are very good phono-only stages.

A really good amp will faithfully reproduce
any harshness that is in any sources-- even many
studio recordings.

Consider A.C. line power into the amp.

That problem sells power conditioners like popcorn
to real audio guys.

MANY commercial recordings are harsh in the
treble. Studios often had issues galore.

Get a really good, known music source before
judging-- see how a known great recording sounds
first-- what I'm saying is don't scrap treble
performance because you heard something you
didn't like. Doing that could mar your GOOD
recording playback.
