This is nothing new, and there 1000's of pieces of musical instrument and audio gear that use variations of this arrangement.
As long as the chassis is bonded to earth then this arrangement usually passes UL, or whatever safety standard.
There are quite a few variations, from paralleled reversed diodes to a cap and resistor in parallel to Broskie's version with the bridge.
The only stipulation in certifications is that the voltage ratings of the devices used be able to withstand the AC voltage.
