Ken,The REL subs are setup to work exactly as you described: for stereo use you run speaker-level signals from the amp to the sub which are then electronically summed. The amp also connects directly to the main speakers. (RELs subs also have a line level input for HT.) The RELs have highly adjustable crossovers and gain controls that let you integrate them with your main speakers. Since the main speakers are still connected directly to the amp, the sub's crossover affects only its response. The electronics in the sub that you're driving with the speaker level signal should have a a very very high impedance (particularly relative to the 6 ohm SM-1s') so it shouldn't degrade the signal.
