I have an understanding that rooms affect the sound, sometimes a lot. And bass maybe more. And then you add in reflections, dampening, furniture.
That said a standard method of reporting what a speaker is putting out I would think is of more help.
Imagine if a car manufacturer reported gas mileage: 70 MPG (on some roads). And they test it on roads going downhill.
