The only time I correct people is when they are either overly familiar like when a salesperson calls me on the phone and calls me by my first name, or they come up with one of those stupid titles when they cross your path on the street. People are forever calling me "chief," "captain," or by some other puzzling title. I don't feel bad at all about telling those people that my name is Dr. Harris, even though I am not an M.D.
