Spatial position is important. There's the idea of aligning the acoustic centers of the drivers so that the wave fronts are launched in synchrony. Then, as in any multi-driver speaker, you want the drivers to be positioned as close edge-to-edge as possible so that their sounds will be integrated earlier. The further apart from each other, the further back you have to be from the speaker before you hear all the drivers acting as one.
