Relative to digital cables / "transmision lines"? / etc.

I have an audio buddy that I visit from time-to-time. He's always tinkering with something.

Latched on to Light Dependent Resistors (LDR's) a few years back and was playing with them for attenuator purposes. Used the now obsoleted units from the Montreal? company.

SO after he got tired with that, he one day put his little LDR box (with an external pot and battery to remotely change the resistance) in parallel with the cable running between his CD transport and DAC. What he found was that a certain load resistance enhanced the stereo imaging.

I hapened down for a visit and he had me listen to the results. CD was a men's choir - men were spread out in a single file across the stage. With the LDR's resistance "out of the sweet spot", the individual voices were "indistinct" in space, but when he dialed in the "magic" resistance, all the voices "snapped into" their correct placement!

It was positively eery to experience. This was a digital signal after all. Something affecting the timing between channels???

Charles
