There's whipper, which seems to promise more sophistication than just a cdparanoia frontend, but last time I tried it the installation procedure flummoxed me.

You can always rip twice and check the flac md5sums with metaflac

metaflac --show-md5sum *.flac

This is a checksum of the actual digital samples, not the FLAC file itself.

Your posted prompted me to try dBPoweramp in Wine again. Before I had slight problems with the UI, but it works like a charm now. Wine 5.5 and dBPoweramp R16.6 on Linux Mint 20.

For checking files after the fact, I use cuetools, which checks against their own, more robust database and against AccurateRip, but I still run it under VirtualBox, which is a bit clunky.

Musicbrainz Picard has the most consistent and sophisticated tagging, but their database is very spotty.
