I noticed that with the T IV with the original mids. The detail swallowing at low levels always pushed me to play louder. I got into the habit of listening with an SPL meter set on "peak" to make sure I am not damaging my hearing.
Turns out my Neo8 mids, which only have a slight bit of the problem - and only discernible when compared to ESLs still drive me to high levels for the front rows perspective I prefer. But I can lower the volume and still get the details, though not the same tactile force of sound I get in front of an orchestra or in a small space with a piano.
