You're correct that it wasn't exactly done to scientific specifications, but I tried it on the advice of several people who had done it successfully. This, from what I've heard, was recommended to customers by Acoustat. The bottom line for me was that it worked; the loose membrane was no longer hitting the stators & the sound generally tightened up, as well. Personally, I would not recommend this for anything BUT Acoustats, & even then only with a strong note of caution. I was fortunate to have a spare panel to practice on, but most people probably don't have this luxury.
