As long as we count by ones, we need pennies.
When we start counting by fives and tens, then we can eliminate the penny.
What is the production cost of a nickel? Or a Dollar bill? Etc.
That's not the issue! The issue is being able to round to the nearest "CENT".
Did your investment in "whatever" stock go up or down today by "3 cents"? How do you capture that, if we don't have the penny?!
