"In the age of Camaros, GTO's, and Mustangs, what was the attraction to this? The appeal of something that wasn't one of those?"

Oldsmobile had a longer stroke engine giving it more low end torque. My Uncles, Father and cousins had them. They stopped making them in the late 1960s. See 442 means 4 barrel, four speed and dual exhaust. They changed the 4 speed to 400 CID engine.

Anyway, Oldsmobile was more into low end torque, like Buick. Chevy and Pontiac went for the shorter stroke high revving engines. My cousin's real 442 with the 330 in it ripped the front bolts out of the seat. My 1970 Toronado ripped the asphalt right off the road. I shit you not. those things were just barely short of being frame twisters.

It may not be my exact dream but I would take the car in the OP, the problem is making payroll for the three armed guards.
