Sorry to hear about your buddy. Heroin is tough stuff. I had two very close friends hooked on it back in the day, and I even tried it once. (Thankfully I had a very violent reaction to it and never tried it again.)

Just to put things into a little perspective, I was recently diagnosed with an aggressive and incurable brain tumor (hence my absence from the Asylum). I'm undergoing chemo and radiation right now, and things are proceeding well, but even WITH treatment, my lifespan can probably be measured in terms of a few years rather than the 2-3 decades my wife and I were planning on just six weeks ago. Without treatment, I'd likely be gone by this time next year, if not sooner.

Even though your friend is in a tough position, he has tremendous financial resources--resources my wife and I, and most people, can only dream about--so he can get good help--BUT only if he WANTS it. That's the trick. And that's also where good friends and family come in handy. I'm incredibly lucky to have a circle of people around me who care greatly about me and have worked tirelessly and selflessly to help me and my wife during this very difficult time. Hopefully your buddy has the same.

I'll be thinking of you and your friend, BH. Hang in there.
