My wife doesn't like music she can't dance to and I like to listen to jazz. My system is thus set up in my bedroom. My system is a Type 45 SET putting about 1W/Ch into a pair of 15" speakers of about 100dB efficiency. I have never listened to music at a high volume. Like it low. Type 45s are nice.

I use a nearfield configuration with the speakers spaced at 58" center to center and the same distance to the corresponding ear at my single-seat listening position.

My wife's bedroom is about 25-30 feet from mine and we both keep our doors closed. She has never been able to hear the music even when it sounds a bit loud to me. I'm two weeks short of being 78, so our hearing is probably nearly the same.

I would highly recommend giving this a try.
