I don't know which generation of firmware it was that included it, but now you can plug an outboard CD drive into the USB port and rip the CD directly to the
Sony unit's internal hard drive. Originally, you had to use a computer to rip the CD to a network drive and Sony's app would copy it into the HAP-Z internal drive.Problem is, Sony is apparently concerned that their unit doesn't supply enough power through the USB port to run the portable CD drive, so they specify that the portable CD drive be independently powered. Good luck finding a portable drive that has its own power supply!
