I can't say how it compares to stock, but I bought a "Euro" modded 999ES from Oade and it sounds great. It sounds better in my 2-channel tube system than the transistor home theater but that's probably the nature of tubes. :-) I wouldn't say it is too forward in either system and it maintains a good balance of warmth and detail and I now run it in the HT system so it is in no way bad. The video quality is fine for me, I'm not enough of a video nut to find the often discussed "chroma bug".

As far as Oade is concerned, they were really good to work with, the unit came in about a week and they included the original op amps at my request (although I've never compared them as that would require some tricky soldering.) Their service was actually beyond expectations because at first I couldn't find the original op amps so they sent me new ones with no questions asked. I then found the original ones buried in the packing peanuts so it was really my mistake. My only small complaint is that they aren't real forward about the mods that they do other than to say the put in the "European Op Amps".

I guess there could be an issue with warranty but given my experience so far, I'm reasonably comfortable that they will fix the unit should there ever be a problem with it.
