Hmmm. I haven't been disappointed at all with SACD as a medium. As with its predecessors, some SACDs are better than others. Regarding the machines, I have no good reason to believe that the decoding is flawed, that the power supplies in reasonable quality machines need replacing, that the output stages are anything but linear in frequency response and low in noise.

But I can certainly identify the disc with which I was most disappointed: DG 471 640-2. Not only do the SACD and CD layers sound so much alike that the few seconds it takes to switch layers erodes any differences that might linger in my mind, but both layers sound like the mid-price reissue on DG Galleria from a while back. Oh well.

There are others that are sure to disappoint. Out of the ones Zog mentioned, I have the Turina and the Mozart, both of which I find enjoyable from a musical and a recording standpoint.
