It's unfortunate that there are no recordings or film of a nightclub performance by Martin & Lewis from before they blew up on radio and movies. According to contemporary descriptions, their act was like nothing anyone had ever seen. Jerry Lewis seems to have been doing something like Robin Williams' stream of consciousness craziness, bouncing around clubs with berserk energy while Martin played handsome straight man and crooned a few songs. The Martin & Lewis we know from their movies is a pale shadow of their live act.
