Im 29 and I was introduced to high end audio by my father. I remember since I was 6-7 yrs old that my father would upgrade his audio equipment every few months. I would like to stick around to listen and see what was so good about it. Even at that age I could understand that things sounded, in kid terms, "more real" thru his stereo. Im very happy and fortunate that I was exposed to better sound reproduction at such a young age. I think most people haven't experienced how enjoyable it can be to have truly good sound at home (mostly the younger crowd). Nowadays I don't think you need a lot of cash to put together a decent sounding system. All that is needed is the desire to have good sound and the motivation to learn about it and how to put it together at whatever budget bracket your at.
