She wore the same dress Saturday night here in Chicago.
My friend, who played with the Lyric Opera 50 years, commented
on Hilary's remarkable bowing arm. Tremendous dynamics, never
an ugly sound. From the 4th row it felt like her instrument was direct wired
to my brain, and heart. And yes, she did dance, but never at the expense of
concentration. Actually, she kept turning into the various featured
orchestral sections, sometimes with a smile, and brought
their playing into her parts. And of course, she has those lightning fast
body moves that compels me to join in the excitement of the music.
Lots of young people in the audience. Fantastic energy.
Brought on images of lakes, pine forests, Roma players, Jimi Hendrix....
In a Lacanian sense, this was music making at its most sexual.
