You say the one cable will be 8 feet longer, but you don't say how long either of the two are.
If that's 8 feet out of 20 feet, then probably not a big deal as long as you are not the anal retentive type that worries about every little thing.
If that's 8 feet out of 12 feet total, then perhaps you should not shorten the one side, leave them the same, and "S" pattern the excess cable length as recommended in the FAQ.
