Hi Gene,The practice of twisting wires around each other is standard accepted practice in the Instrumentation industry so it should hold good here too.
It is based around the theory that interference will be felt in equal measures on both the Signal (+ve) line and the earth or signal ground line. The effect is to maintain the s/n (signal to noise ratio) as it was prior to the interference.
Therefore your hook-up method is not correct and you should change it as directed by Andyr (i.e. twist the ground and signal wire of the left channel together, and repeat for the other channel), do NOT then twist all four wires together.
