I tried, without success. Took an old PS Audio pre, removed the active guts, and wired the inputs to the selector switch, and the outs to the volume pot, all with cotton-insulated silver wire. The result was thin, maybe somewhat compressed, definitely bass-shy.

The sources were normalish stuff: Oppo player, Metric Halo ADC/DAC, TV. The amps were Manley monoblocks. Some day I'll maybe figure it out, or one of you will enlighten me.
