I have a "digital hub" (a streamer, DAC & pre-amp) in an Ayre QX-5. I use a Pass Labs XP-30 pre-amplifier. When I compare the the music sound when using the QX-5, I get less soundstage depth and a more "up front" presentation. The Pass pre-amp fills out the soundstage in a manner more life-like. Both are as quiet as silence. All using XLR ICs.
