I really don't want to rain on your parade.

I couldn't find a place in my room where they didn't sound overly mid-bass heavy. That's unusual for me and my room. In my room, mini-monitors sound nice and airy w/ subs, 'stats and planars sound quite fabulous, now I'm into more efficient floor standers (a new thing for me) and they sound good. I tried the Silents up against the wall, out from the wall, this way and that way and nothing seemed to tame that mid-bass emphasis. I even emailed John Marks about my concerns who was the first and positive reviewer of them. No backing down from him, of course, so the model is still recommended, AFAIK. I don't remember what amp I had at the time, it could have been a Jolida EL-34B type integrated but maybe not. Perhaps the Silents didn't like it and a good, powerful SS amp would be just the ticket.

Was the EPI original the 201? Memory fails, but the company I worked for was an EPI dealer in the waay back. I thought the EPI 50 was their best deal, nice and inexpensive mini-monitor that I used for a while, the 100 was pretty good, too.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts. With different amplification, it could be a different story. I certainly hope so.

The manufacturer took 'em back when I wasn't satisfied, so there's that.
