UL and CE approvals likely stop at the speaker jacks where they are allowed due to past practice?
If you look at the design of a lot of the eu products with special design DIN plugs that completely preclude something like this happening at the expense of a crappy and proprietary plug then you see the other side of the equation.
Our designs allow for banana or spade or bare wire etc, at the expense that you can make the mistake if you aren't careful.
Personally I see it as you made a mistake, and you lost a speaker, and I for one dont want fool proof connections if it means giving up the potential to bridge mono through the same connections or use the connector of my choice.
A lesson was learned that a flashlight and double-checking would have prevented. An expensive lesson maybe, but one that wont be forgotten.
