According to a recent Spectrum (IEEE periodical) 45% of the USA Power System engineers are due to retire in the next five years. Oh, and power systems haven't really changed for about 80 years.......but they are about to become intelligent networks ...... and electric cars are here and coming .... needing way more power than networks can deliver. So, ..... power systems engineering is nicely staid, all the rocket scientists went to Nasa or Silicon Valley ....... ,and it's hard to export power systems engineering to China ......, so, do you think that just maybe there is an opportunity waiting at a Utility near you? :0)
Just my thoughts - personally for me power electronics has been great fun for 30+ years.
Murray
BTW watch out for China in power systems components in years to come ......
