The power cable and replacing the jumpers with good interconnect made only a small difference, as you might expect, you can't really make up for a system that isn't right, by using better cables... but I have got the move coming up so maybe a better power source awaits

So I am window shopping for a tubed preamp. Ideally this would have adjustable gain as well as volume. Adjustable gain because I like to use the volume control between 10 and 2, where we are told solid state amps perform at their most efficient. Managing gain is the curse of analog systems.

I bet I cant afford this! but any suggestion in a budgetary vein?
