you MUST have a phono preamplifier and like it or not, that does constitute a "preamplifier". Not too long ago, all preamplifiers were presumed to contain a phono gain stage.I use a Walker Audio Precision Motor Controller, and once having heard the improvement it made in my phono reproduction, I would not live without it.
